LNG 131 |
German I |
This course introduces the basic knowledge of German and aims not only to enable students to use the acquired grammatical patterns, but also to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension skills. The course is geared to A1.1 and to a part of A1.2 of the A1 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able to demonstrate his / her understanding simple and very common expressions, when people speak slowly and clearly and to demonstrate his /her understanding straightforward tasks and instructions, simple questions, simple information about an object. Able to demonstrate his /her understanding short conversations on subjects he/she is familiar with (school, family, hobbies)
- Reading: Able to read, to demonstrate his/her understanding familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues. Able to read and illustrate his/ her understanding short, simple messages, very short texts.
- Speaking: Able to greet people, intoduce him/her self briefly, to order some thing to drink and eat and to use simple phrases and sentences to describe where I live and people I know. Able to ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
- Writing: Able to write very simple sentences, able to write who he/she is and where he/she lives, to fill in forms with personal details, for example entering his/her name, nationality and address on a hotel registration form. Able to write very simple messages and questions for other people (e.g text messages or "post-its",cards) and write some personal information concerning him/ herself (age, address, hobbies), describe objects.

LNG 132 |
German II |
This course is a continuation of LNG 131 and is intended for students who have a basic knowledge of German. The course aims not only to enable students to use the acquired grammatical patterns but also to improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension skills. The course is geared to a part of A1.2 and to a part of A2.1 of the A2 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able to demonstrate his/her understanding the main points in simple, clear and short announcements and messages about, how to get some where, when someone explains slowly and clearly. Able to extract important information on short radio broadcasts. Able to understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment)
- Reading: Able to read and describe his understanding of texts written in simple language.Able to read very short, simple texts, find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables and understand short simple personal letters.
- Speaking: Able to answer simple questions using individual words, expressions or short sentences and to interact in a simple way. Able to express certain feelings that everyone is familiar with, using simple words. Able to have a short telephone conversation, with people arrange to meet them, e.g.: able to make simple purchases, explain what he/she is looking for and ask how much an article costs. Able to ask straightforward questions on a subject or react to something that other people have said about it.
- Writing: Able to write about people and things in his/her every day life (school, family, hobbies, daily routine, projects...). Able to write a very simple card (e.g.to thank someone for a present ) Able to use short sentences to say what he/she prefers or what he/she receives. Able to write a short greetings card. Able to reply to an invitation and cancel or change an appointment, using simple words (e.g SMS messages).

LNG 133 |
German III |
This course is a continuation of LNG 132 and is intended for students who have a basic knowledge of German. The course aims not only to enable students to use the acquired grammatical patterns but also to improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension skills. The course is geared to a part of A2.1 and to A2.2 of the A2 level of CEFR. comprehension skills. The course is geared to a part of A1.2 and to a part of A2.1 of the A2 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able to demonstrate his/her understanding the main points of clear standard inputs on familiar topics about work, school, leisure, etc. Able to demonstrate his/her understanding of the most of radio or TV programs on current affairs or topics of interest personal or professional title if the delivery is relatively slow and clear.
- Reading: Able to demonstrate his/her understanding essential information on advertisements, when they are clear and simple.
- Speaking: Able to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring an exchange of information simple and directions on familiar topics and activities. Able to handle very short social exchanges. Able to use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms his/her family and other people, his/her living conditions, educational background and present or most recent job.
- Writing: Able to describe the daily activities or referring to the past. Also formulate projects and fix in writing of the action taken.

LNG 134 |
Intermediate German I |
This course is a continuation of LNG 133 and is intended for students who have a basic knowledge of German. The course aims not only to enable students to use the acquired grammatical patterns but also to improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension skills. The course is geared to the first stage of the B1 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able to demonstrate his/ her understanding the main points in relatively long discussions, if people involved do not talk too fast and use standard language.
- Reading: Able to demonstrate his/her understanding advertising letters, formation leaflets, texts of varying lengths, personal letters giving a relatively detailed account of events and experiences.
- Speaking: Able to give someone advice on simple matters, able to express his/her opinion on subjects with which he/ she is familiar.
- Writing: Able to describe every day things or events using complete sentences that are connected to one another. Able to write simple, relatively short texts he/she has experienced, without any help. Able to write a report on an important event or a personal experience in a school newspaper.

LNG 135 |
Intermediate German II |
This course is a continuation of GER 211 and LNG 134 and builds on students’ knowledge and usage grammar previously acquired by improving especially their reading, writing and speaking skills. This course is geared to the first stage of the B1 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able to complete the tasks given about the content of most audio recordings or radio programmes that interest him/her, provided that people talk clearly and in the standard language.
- Reading: Able to answer to questions on short texts on topical subjects or familiar subjects in which people give their opinions, assessment, points of view (for example critical contributions to a discussion forum on the Internet or readers’ letters to the editor), to scan through straightforward,factual texts in magazines, brochures or on the Internet.
- Speaking: Able to ask people relatively spontaneous questions about a special experience or event (for example about their holidays, a party or an accident),make a complaint in person, able to start up a conversation, help it to keep going, express his/her opinion on familiar subjects and ask other people questions.
- Writing: Able to list the advantages and disadvantages of things, justify his her opinion, using simple words. Able to write a curriculum vitæ in the form of a table.Able to reply to an advertisement in writing and ask for further information on items which interest him/her.

LNG 136 |
Intermediate German III |
This course is a continuation of GER 212 and LNG 135 and builds on students’ knowledge and usage grammar previously acquired by improving especially their reading, writing and speaking skills. This course is geared to the middle stage of the B1 level of CEFR.

- Listening: Able complete the tasks given, correctly on television documentaries, interviews, talk shows, plays and most films, provided they are in standard language and not in dialect
- Reading: Able to go rapidly through long, complicated texts and pick out important pieces of information and to answer to questions related.
- Speaking: Able to talk with other people about impressions, ideas or feelings. Able to express his/her ideas and opinions precisely and put forward persuasive arguments.
- Writing: Able to present something in a clear, systematic manner and appropriately highlight the main points and important details, a problem in a critical manner and weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of various solutions to the problem.

This course is designed especially for the Master's students of the Department of Archeology in accordance with the European Languages Common Framework Programme at the first stage of the level A1. While it aims to teach basic German, it is primarily directed towards the comprehension of readings. Vocabulary and reading materials covered in this course are chosen from the discipline of archeology.
